The text is reproduced from the white manuscript “M. N. Burliuk. Our journey to Europe - in the footsteps of Van Gogh”, stored in NIOR RSL (F. 372. K. 4. Item 11. L. 1−126). The author’s division of the text into chapters, which are designated as “letters of the book”, is preserved " They alternate with letters received by the Burliuks while traveling in the south of France. Late additions by N.D. Burliuk have been omitted. The text has been brought into compliance with the norms of modern spelling, while the author's style has been completely preserved, missing words and parts of words have been restored in square brackets. The use of the Latin alphabet in writing names, places and titles is the author’s (to help the reader, we provide an index of geographical names and main attractions of Provence and Languedoc). This is a diary of a journey from New York to the Cote d'Azur and further, through post-war Provence and Languedoc. The main place in this journey is occupied by the places of Van Gogh (Arles, Saint-Rémy, Saint-Marie, Tarascon) - the search for his motives and people who still remember the artist, but the Burliuks also come to the attention of places associated with Cezanne, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec. On this journey (September 23 - December 1, 1949), deprived of the necessary comfort, two no longer young people - D. Burliuk was 67 years old at that time - embarked on this journey for the sake of feeling and searching for cultural memory, in the hope of being “irradiated” through the real nature and get closer to the solution to Van Gogh’s art. The formal result of this trip was the “Arles” series of works by Burliuk and an exhibition in a New York gallery. The diary is preceded by an article by David Burliuk, translated into Russian for the first time, from the magazine Color and Rhyme (New York, No. 22, 1950/1951), explaining the purpose of the trip. For the first time, Felix Serres’ story about his meeting with Van Gogh is reproduced. The publication is accompanied by a large number of illustrations and documents, a significant part of which is a comparison of images of the same motif by Van Gogh and Burliuk. In A4.PDF format The publishing layout has been preserved.
