Before you is the first book in our country about the tragic life of the last emperor of China, Pu Yi. It is written on the basis of the memoirs of the emperor himself, widely known both in China (first published in 1964) and abroad, as well as memoirs his wives, relatives, contemporaries. The book makes extensive use of archival materials and documents about the life and work of Pu Yi, talks about the tragic years spent in a Soviet and then a Chinese prison, the rehabilitation of the emperor and his transformation into an ordinary citizen of the PRC, his meetings with the leaders of the PRC and the last years of his life during the “cultural revolution”.
