New book by Doctor of Political Sciences. Deputy of the State Duma of the 4th convocation, chairman of the political party “Great Russia” Andrei Nikolaevich Savelyev is dedicated to Sparta. What do we know about Sparta? An ancient state, somewhere at the southern tip of the Balkans. Also – the film “300 Spartans”, or rather two films. Who are the Spartans? Why were they treated with respect and fear? Not only because they were wonderful warriors and inventors of military training for youth, but also for the system of public education, special aesthetics and lifestyle. An aura of myths and legends developed around Sparta back in the period of antiquity. In addition, some Greeks condemned and ridiculed Sparta. Others were surprised by the orders and customs of the Spartans, admired their military power and fortitude. Plato and Aristotle saw in Sparta a model of stability worthy of imitation. The history of Sparta is known to us only in fragments. Modern historians, like ancient ones, also use interpretations and fictions. To a large extent, the sources are biased and contain a lot of fiction and speculation. When we clear history layer by layer from fantasies and slander, the real Sparta opens before us - a beautiful creation of the ancients, which we can admire and from which we can learn to love our Fatherland and protect it from external enemies and internal strife. The experience of the Spartan state teaches us the need to preserve sacred traditions and social barriers, including taking into account the specifics of ethnicity. The Spartans teach us to care more about the spirit of the nation than about luxury items that will end up in museums centuries later. But Sparta also teaches us the need for leadership in relation to neighboring peoples, if we do not want the archaic to sooner or later drag our people into oblivion. The book is addressed to a wide range of readers, everyone who is interested in the history and culture of ancient civilizations, the modern development of peoples and states, and who is not indifferent to the fate of their native Fatherland.
