The story “The Awakening” tells about events in the life of a Slovak village in the years 10–20. XX century. It is possible to revive a people in deep spiritual sleep only by introducing them to the study of the Holy Scriptures. After the Slovaks gained political freedoms, the Bible became available to every village resident. Against the backdrop of touching everyday stories, the author describes the inner awakening of his heroes, who for the first time encountered the living word of God.
