Ronald Reagan (1911–2004), the 40th President of the United States, according to public opinion polls of this country, was one of the most authoritative statesmen in its entire history. He was the initiator of important economic and social reforms that led to the US emerging from long-term economic stagnation, contributed to the stimulation of entrepreneurial activity of medium and large businesses, the improvement of the tax system, and positive changes in the sociocultural field. Many of his political ideas were contradictory: he sincerely strived for nuclear disarmament, which did not prevent him from announcing a strategic defense initiative, which was viewed not only in international circles, but also in the United States as a “star wars” program; took significant steps to end the Cold War and at the same time sought to put pressure on the Soviet Union. His administration was involved in the noisy political scandal "Irangate". The book offered to the reader aims to objectively and comprehensively illuminate the life and political path of a prominent American statesman on the basis of documentary primary sources, primarily from the archives of the United States.
