The book presented to the attention of readers is based on the story of great love between Rabbi Akiva and Rachel, described in the Talmud. It was thanks to his wife that Akiva managed to overcome the path from an illiterate shepherd to one of the greatest sages in the history of Judea. This work tells the story of Akiva, who was born into a poor family and did not receive any education in his youth. He was a simple shepherd and, moving from place to place, did hard work everywhere. But one day fate presented him with an amazing gift, sending him a meeting with a beautiful girl. Young, educated Rachel was the only daughter of Kalba Savua, the richest man in Jerusalem. This meeting radically changed the life of Akiva, who fell in love with the girl at first sight. Realizing that there was a big difference between them in age and, moreover, in social status, he tried not to think about Rachel, but he could not help himself. The girl, seeing the modesty and virtue of the shepherd, agreed to marry him - on the condition that he begins to study the wisdom of the Torah. However, Kalba Savua, Rachel's father, strongly opposed their marriage. Rachel, knowing full well that it would be difficult to re-educate and teach literacy to a thirty-five-year-old man, was nevertheless determined. Kalba Savua, having learned about his daughter's decision, kicked her out of the house, depriving her of her inheritance. This story, which took place about 2,000 years ago, has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries as a standard of high relationships between a man and a woman. As the plot develops, the book raises important questions about the need for prayers, about the illusory nature of the world, about the fact that everything in this world is predetermined and there are no accidents, and so on. “Everything is predetermined, but freedom is given” Rabbi Akiva (Mishna, tractate Avot, 3:15).
