The first wife of the great Russian composer Lina Kodina-Prokofieva lived a long life, almost an entire century. She spent twenty years living with Prokofiev in America, Europe, and then in the Soviet Union, communicating with Rachmaninov, Stravinsky, Horowitz and Toscanini, Diaghilev and Balmont, Picasso and Matisse, Meyerhold and Eisenstein... She had to survive the collapse of her family, arrest, prison and Soviet camps. She was an outstanding personality worthy of her brilliant husband. However, until the very last years, we knew nothing about her: Soviet censorship erased Lina both from Prokofiev’s life and from history. The book by Valentina Chemberdzhi, who knew the entire Prokofiev family well, is essentially a documented biography of Lina Ivanovna, based on previously unpublished archival materials .
