How could it happen that in two relatively large military clashes, the description and analysis of which is the subject of this work, the Russian fleets - both the Baltic and the Black Sea - did not live up to expectations and were unable to demonstrate that powerful artillery fire, of which there is a lot Have you ever admired the shooting, which was recorded on many “graphs”, diagrams and even on cinematographic tape? Why did the picture and results turn out to be completely different in battle? This question constantly confronts us when studying the battles on the Black Sea on November 5, 1914 and on the Baltic on June 19, 1915. Doesn’t it seem remarkable that we see the same negative result in the conditions and completely different environments? In one case - the Baltic fleet, in the other - the Black Sea fleet. Each had their own shooting methods: the first was based on the principle of decentralized shooting, the second. on the contrary, centralized shooting was placed at the basis of all artillery preparation: the elements of the combatants, their composition, the characteristic features of the command, and finally, the structure of the operations that led to the battle - everything was different... The general assessment of both battles is approximately the same: neither here nor there the fleet did not solve its problem, as it would seem that it could and should have solved, having excellent artillery preparation. We specifically examined these two battles and combined them into one parallel study. Common points, common reasons here make it possible to draw conclusions that characterize the broad formulation of the question of the tactics of the Russian fleet and its combat testing.
