The Father of Waters smoothly carries his waves through the wild forests that border his shores for many miles. These virgin forests have never been touched by a woodcutter's axe. Along the bed of the great river, almost along its entire length, are the boundaries between different states; on its western shore, in Arkansas, near the city of Helina, on the road leading to the state capital of Little Rock, the events of this novel took place. The scene is a small clearing surrounded by poplars, majestic in their beauty; on one of the trees you can see many notches indicating the road from Helina to the settlement located at the intersection of the White River and the Cache River.
