“Am I scared?” - this question is asked by a young partisan, yesterday’s high school student, and today the political commissar of a partisan brigade, and then a wife, mother, grandmother; yesterday's peasant boy, and now a brave, sometimes to the point of recklessness, commander; and then a politician, People's Hero of Yugoslavia; their daughter, a baby, a teenage girl, a student, a hippie, a mother of adult children, going on a humanitarian mission to besieged Sarajevo... And all three answer the question posed in the affirmative... The events and characters of the novel are followed by the family history of the Slovenian writer Maruša Krese (1947–2013 ), very personal, but acquiring universal meaning and universality.
