A young huntsman from a hunting estate lost in the deep Karelian forests, Kostya Mishutin, encountered in an impassable thicket with “reenactors” dressed in the pre-war uniform of the Red Army, decided, for fun, to play along with them and responded to the menacing cry of “Stop, who’s coming?!” replied: “A defector from Finland! I don’t want to fight with the Soviet Union!” Only a few hours later Kostya realized that the thousands of armed people in authentic uniforms he saw were not playing “war games” at all. There really is a real war going on around us, later called the Winter War. And the abilities of a huntsman who knows how to “listen to the forest” will be of great use in hunting enemy snipers, nicknamed cuckoos, terrorizing the Red Army soldiers.
