2014 marks exactly 100 years since the start of the First World War. The Russian Empire, and after the anti-monarchical coup of 1917, Republican Russia under the Provisional Government, was one of the main participants in this global drama. However, after October 1917, it became no longer accepted to talk about the “imperialist” war, and it ended up on the margins of Soviet historical science. This situation, by inertia, continued in post-Soviet Russia, right up to the centenary of the Great War. The book offered to the reader provides an overview of the participation in military operations of the famous Siberian regiments that fought in 1914–1917. on the fields of military glory in East Prussia, Poland and Belarus. The victories and defeats of Russian weapons, the mass heroism of privates and officers of the Russian Imperial Army on the banks of the Vistula, Neman and Western Dvina, the names of the St. George Knights and future heroes of the Red and White movements of the coming Civil War are reflected on the pages of this book. The uniqueness of the publication is that the role of the Siberian riflemen in the First World War is shown on the basis of archival documents of those years, primarily regimental journals of military operations. The book will be interesting and useful both to the general reader interested in the history of their homeland, and to specialists -historians and students of higher educational institutions.
