In the series of battleships of the last decade of the 19th century, “Charles-Martel,” as “Modelist” wrote, came first. Thus, “Charles-Martel” became the symbol that was most associated with the concept of “the unique appearance of French battleships.” Only very recently the following picture began to become clearer. It turns out that the ships of the 3rd Republic were so unpopular in France itself that publishers are afraid to publish books on them. The most you can count on is articles. Hence the small selection of authors: Luc Fearon, Mark Saban, Philippe Cares and Gerard Pravoto. Two studies on one narrow topic are, in principle, impossible, especially since only one author writes specifically about this period - Monsieur Feron. My interest, purely private, could not but lead to the desire that a reader not familiar with the French language , would also create a holistic picture of their 1st rank ships.
