Alexander’s creative heritage amazes me with its versatility and breadth of scientific horizons. When you look at the work he did in the field of bibliology, religious studies, cultural history, literature, you are surprised at the enormous volume of his work. A prominent figure in the Russian Orthodox Church, a biblical scholar, theologian, and preacher, he did so much in his short life that only an entire team could have done it. His deep theoretical research was combined with active preaching activities. He lived an extremely eventful life: he served in church, wrote books and articles, gave lectures at schools and universities, and spoke on radio and television. Father Alexander devoted himself wholeheartedly to serving God and people. The future shepherd was born in 1935. Already in his early youth, Alexander clearly realized that he would become a priest. During his school and student years, he greedily replenished and expanded his religious knowledge. We should not forget that the time of his youth fell on the rampant atheism, when the state and society put incredible pressure on believers. To preserve and defend the faith in such conditions meant to accomplish a moral feat. All the activities of Alexander Men, a shepherd and a scientist, were marked by amazing inner nobility. A man of encyclopedic knowledge, he was open to the great Truth. The main work of his life is a series of books on the history of religion, as well as a book about Jesus Christ, “The Son of Man.” In them, Father Alexander traces the spiritual history of humanity, the search for the meaning of existence. In his works, he showed that these quests are nothing more than an ascent to the Truth, and the Truth is Christ. The greatest biblical scholar, Alexander Men, dreamed of writing a textbook on the history of religion. The tragic death of a clergyman in 1990 prevented the implementation of this plan. The grandiose plan was not completed, but the books of Father Alexander, his priceless scientific archive, remained. The work on creating the textbook was continued by the friends and relatives of Alexander Menya.
