During the Middle Ages, Islam was the only civilized, but also the most problematic neighbor of Christian Europe. The entire Middle Ages passed under the sign of an almost continuous struggle between these two cultures. By the time the Frankish crusaders reached the Middle East at the end of the 11th century, Islam had already absorbed three main nationalities: Arabs, Persians and Turks. Each of them contributed to the strengthening of the power of Islamic weapons. This work examines the organization, uniform and equipment of the armies of Islam in the 7th–11th centuries, the text is accompanied by illustrations, museum photographs and drawings made by Angus McBride. The book is addressed to a wide range of readers interested in history army and military uniform.
