Knightly orders are the absolute embodiment of the medieval spirit, achieved by the combination of two main components - monastic postulates and the ideals of chivalry. The first orders were formed at the end of the Middle Ages, in that enchanting and abounding in secrets era, when spiritual vows still mattered, and in particular honor is the knightly-game element. Later, they began to transform into large political and economic institutions and, quickly becoming a powerful force (just remember the Templars!), really and unequivocally influenced the course of European history.
