The reader initially sees the hero of the epistolary cycle “Letters to a Stranger” as an unsuccessful, inept and insecure young man whose personal life is not working out. During a long journey through 206 educational letters, a young man named Serkidon learns many rules of life that help him, the “ugly duckling,” turn into a “beautiful swan.” The beginning “Don Juan” gains “salesmanship” and confidence in his abilities.
