Howard Hines: is one of the most famous masters of a special literary genre in the United States today, called the “film novel.” The basis of a film novel is the impressions the writer receives from watching a film: on the basis of these impressions, a new and often very vivid literary work is created. The genre of film novels has now gained extreme popularity in the world, and not least of all, this was facilitated by the work of G. Hines. Hines was able to become a professional writer already quite a mature person, and the adventures of his youth, which included vagrancy, participation in a gang of thieves, and the Vietnam War, predetermined the writer’s craving for adventurous plots, the abundance of scenes of violence and sex in his novels, and his tough and courageous manner his letters. G. Hines' novels “The Hitcher” and “Blind Fury” are being translated into Russian for the first time.
