D.'s fame was brought to him by his “Childe Cycle”, an integral part of which is the “Cycle of the Dorsai” - named after a specially “bred” race of galactic warriors. The series, conceived by the author as a history of the future (it was supposed to be supplemented with historical and realistic novels), provoked protest from liberal critics, who saw in D.'s cycle an open preaching of militarism; if we ignore the “ideological content” (like P. Anderson, L. Niven, R. Heinlein, D. adheres to moderately conservative ideas of libertarianism), this is a vivid example of adventure science fiction with elements of “space opera”.
