D.'s fame was brought to him by his “Childe Cycle”, an integral part of which is the “Cycle of the Dorsai” - named after a specially “bred” race of galactic warriors. The series, conceived by the author as a history of the future (it was supposed to be supplemented with historical and realistic novels), provoked protest from liberal critics, who saw in D.'s cycle an open preaching of militarism; if we ignore the “ideological content” (like P. Anderson, L. Niven, R. Heinlein, D. adheres to moderately conservative ideas of libertarianism), this is a vivid example of adventure science fiction with elements of “space opera”. The series includes the books (listed in order of internal chronology): Necromancer (1962; others - No Room for Man), Tactics of Mistake (1971) , “Soldier, Don’t Ask” [Soldier, Ask Not] (1964; additional 1967; Russian 1991), “Born Commander” [Genetic General] (1959 – “Dorsai!”; abbr. 1960; Russian 1991 – “ Genetic commander"; other - "Born commander"; additional 1976 - "Dorsai!" the first, second and fourth novels are combined into one volume - “Three Dorsai!” [Three to Dorsai!] (1975); The Final Encyclopedia (1984), Chantry Guild (1988), Young Bleys (1991). The “side” line is presented in the collection. “The Spirit of Dorsai” (1979); other short productions included in Sat. “Lost Dorsai” (1980; rev. 1988); Most of the calls and stories are combined into a collection. “In Company with Dorsai” [The Dorsai Companion] (1986); stand out - the story “The Lost Dorsai” (1980; “Hugo”-81) and the story “Soldier, Don’t Ask” (1964; “Hugo”-65; additional 1967; Russian 1991). Translations into Russian language prod. cycle was Sat. – “From the series “Dorsai” (Russian 1991), “Dorsai Duology” (Russian 1992; others - “Soldier, don’t ask. Born commander”) u003d26
