John Katzenbach is a popular writer and journalist, a renowned crime reporter for the Miami Herald and Miami News. He has written 12 detective novels, translated into more than twenty languages and published in more than a million copies. Three of his novels have been filmed, including the novel “In the Name of Justice”, which was made into a famous Hollywood film starring Sean Connery and Laurence Fishburne (in Russian distribution - “A Just Cause”, 1995). When crime reporter Matthew Couert received a letter from death row in which a young black man swore that he had not killed a white girl and was a victim of racial prejudice and police brutality, Cowert took it with skepticism. They are all innocent lambs! But the more he delved into the circumstances of the case, the more convinced he became: if the alarm is not sounded urgently, an innocent person will go to the electric chair. Cowert publishes a series of articles and widely publicizes the results of his journalistic investigation. It would seem that everything is fine: justice has been restored, an innocent person is free, a noble journalist has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize... But in reality, everything is just beginning.
