In 1963-1965, the author of this book managed to visit the mountains of Eastern and Southwestern India and visit the Indian tribes living there. For a long time, these tribes, located in inaccessible mountainous areas, were isolated from the outside world, and therefore retained their primitive tribal organization and unique culture. The inaccessibility of the mountainous terrain contributed to the lack of knowledge of the tribes. L.V. Shaposhnikova was the first Soviet person to visit these tribes and collect valuable information about them. In the short essays that make up the book, the author talks about the peculiarities of the clan organization of the tribes, their history, culture, religion, and cites numerous legends reflecting psychology people and their worldview.
