In the history of Finnish literature of the 20th century, Eino Leino (Eino the Sorrowful) has firmly established himself as the first poet. However, Leino's work went beyond the borders of one country, ceasing to be only a national treasure. The literary heritage of the “great artist of words,” as Maxim Gorky called Leino, significantly enriched European spiritual culture. And although almost 130 years have passed since the birth of Eino Leino, his best poems still live, and the Finnish language sounds like a beautiful melody in them. This publication for the first time introduces readers to the work of the Finnish writer in such a complete volume; the book includes both his poetic and prose works. Poetic translations are given accompanied by texts in the original language. All translations were carried out by E. Ioffe, most of them are published for the first time.
