The novel “The Year of Love” by the Swiss writer Paul Nizon (b. 1929) is largely autobiographical. A wonderful stylist, he masterfully conveys the painful feeling of “crampedness”, the limited space of Switzerland, which, on the one hand, gives rise to the desire to escape, and on the other, creates a heightened sense of duty. The collection also includes the novel “Stolz”, the story “Immersion” and the book of short stories “In the Belly of the Whale”.
