In the story “Black Heart and White Heart” the fates of three people are inextricably linked. The first of them is the Englishman Philip Hadden, who was forbidden by the Zulu ruler Tsetivayo to leave the Zulu country. The second is the Zulu warrior Naoon, assigned by Tsetivayo to Philip Hadden. The third of the main characters of the story is Naoon's beloved and loving girl Nanea, who is ordered to become Tsetivayo's wife.
