Revered throughout the world, the Japanese classic Kojiro Serizawa was born in 1896 in a fishing village. The father and mother, fanatical adherents of the Tenri religious teachings, abandoned the child in early childhood. A man of unyielding will, Serizawa overcame all the trials that befell him, entered the University of Tokyo, and then studied in France. Having fallen ill with tuberculosis in Paris and struggling with death, he realized and formulated his purpose in literature - “to express in words the ineffable will of God.” His novel “Dying in Paris” was nominated for the Nobel Prize. In 1965, Serizawa succeeded Yasunari Kawabata as chairman of the Japanese PEN Club. The Book of Heaven completes Kojiro Serizawa's famous trilogy, following The Book of God and The Book of Man. Here the author-character, thanks to unexpectedly acquired supernatural abilities, penetrates from the world of phenomena into the other world and shares his mystical experience.
