The book by certified historian, deputy of the State Duma of Russia Oleg Shein is dedicated to the history of the 248th Infantry Division. It was an ordinary infantry unit with an unusual fate. Formed in September 1942 in Astrakhan, it crossed the Kalmyk deserts, broke through the Miusfront, and liberated Nikolaev and Odessa. After the Iasi-Kishinev operation, the division was transferred to Poland and ended the war in Berlin. The 248th Infantry Division became one of two formations that directly stormed the Reich Chancellery, that is, the residence of Adolf Hitler. The book is written on the basis of recently declassified archives of the Ministry of Defense and personal memories of war veterans.
