The book is dedicated to Sultan Saladin - Yusuf ibn Ayyub Salah ad-Din (1137–1193), one of the most outstanding commanders, diplomats and statesmen of the Muslim East, who conquered Jerusalem from the crusaders. The author examines the life and work of the book's hero in the context of the collision of Christian, Islamic and Jewish civilizations and the entire subsequent history of Europe and the Middle East, up to the dramatic events of the first decades of the 21st century.
