The story is about the difficult fate of the beautiful Maria, who at the age of sixteen was taken to work in Germany, who at the end of the war met the love of her life, the Frenchman Jean, and was separated from him by the Decree of 1947 “On the Prohibition of Marriages with Foreigners.” She served time under Article 58 in a Soviet camp in Kolyma, after her release she married an engineer, gave birth to a long-awaited daughter, and four years later her husband met someone younger and more educated and started another family. Maria raised her daughter alone - her only consolation. At the end of her life, the woman was left completely alone, with resentment towards her parents, husband, daughter, and bitter fate.
