Soviet writer Georgy Dmitrievich Gulia (1913-1989), Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR (1943) and the Abkhaz ASSR (1971), did not begin his life as a writer. In his youth, he worked for many years as an engineer on the construction of the Black Sea Railway. And only in adulthood did he begin to write books. His first story, “Spring in Saken,” received the Stalin Prize in 1949. This was followed by many other stories, short stories, and novels. For a long time, Georgy Gulia was one of the leaders of Literaturnaya Gazeta. During this period, he turned to the historical genre, and from his pen came out very interesting novels from the history of ancient peoples - “Pharaoh Akhenaten”, “The Man from Athens”, “Sulla”, “Omar Khayyam”. The novel published in this volume tells about the era of the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten (XIV century BC) - one of the key eras in the history of Egyptian culture. This time is rich in geniuses of architecture, sculpture and painting. But the identity of the reformer pharaoh himself still remains a mystery. There are no works about Akhenaten and his time in world fiction. The novel by Georgy Gulia is interesting for its original development of this topic.
