Peter Nikolaevich Krasnov (1869-1947) is an ambiguous and tragic figure in Russian history. The famous Cossack general, famous writer, ataman of the All-Great Don Army, in 1918 he raised the Cossacks in a “national people’s war” against the Bolsheviks. In 1920, Krasnov emigrated to Germany. During the Second World War, he led a part of the Cossacks that went over to the side of the Wehrmacht, which, following the chieftain, repeated: “Even with the devil, but against the Bolsheviks!”
