The reader is already familiar with the Greek island of Aegina from the biography of the great saint of God, St. Nektaria (Kefaly, + 1920). This publication will introduce him to another Aegina ascetic - Elder Jerome the Silent. The paths of these ascetics did not intersect in their earthly lives - Elder Jerome in September 1922, shortly after the death of Bishop Nektarios, came to the island to continue the work begun by the saint - to serve people spiritually. Elder Jerome began his asceticism in The Cappadocian town of Gelveri under the leadership of Misail and Father John, who, by their example and their lives, taught him fervent prayer and to thank God for everything. In his life, Fr. Jerome felt Divine Providence through temptations and sorrows, and in difficult trials he not only did not give up, but even more devoted himself to prayer and thanksgiving. For humility and bearing sorrows with thanksgiving, the Lord endowed the elder with spiritual gifts - insight, the gift of prophecy and consolation. This book is about the life of the great elder, about his modest asceticism accomplished in our days. A person’s holiness always attracts all his neighbors to him: I want to understand, realize and begin the work of my own salvation. This book will tell about the formation of holiness of a seemingly ordinary person; it will also tell about how saints live unnoticed among us and how they gracefully change and transform our souls and our lives.
