The hero of the first novel of the trilogy, teacher and poet Trirodov, uses his life to implement all his plans, replacing God with his will. In the children’s colony set up on his estate, “quiet children” live - taking away all the darkness of life and its dead peace, they give to those Trirodov himself had the opportunity to feel the fullness of life and his will. Outside the estate, hurricanes of unfair and painful life sweep through: Cossack dispersals of demonstrations, brazen antics of the Black Hundreds, the struggle of political parties, the frenzy of endless intellectual disputes. Being a sophisticated chemist and engineer, Trirodov confronts this reality... In the trilogy, an attempt to embody a dream - the most important element of a symbol - is made simultaneously by different people in different countries. In the novel, the symbolist writer Fyodor Sologub expressed his philosophical and artistic ideas, which he had previously outlined in articles and essay. Initially, the series of novels he conceived was called “Navy Chari”, and the first part was called “The Legend in the Making” (1906), followed by “Drops of Blood”, “Queen Ortrud” and “Smoke and Ashes” (in two parts), - all they were published 1907–1913. Then Sologub abandoned such a decadent title in favor of “The Legend in the Making,” which was more consistent with the idea of the novel.
