I and Him is one of Moravia's most scandalous and evil novels, which has been compared to the films of Federico Fellini. The appearance of the novel in Italy caused a shock in public and literary circles with its frank depiction of the hero’s intimate experiences, inspired by Freudian complexes. However, the scandalous fame of the novel was quickly replaced by recognition of the undeniable artistic merits of this work, once again highlighting the writer’s deep and at the same time ironic approach to identifying the mysterious aspects of a person’s inner world. A phantasmagoric story, full of salty humor, of a man whose phallus suddenly gained reason and began to live on its own, life independent of the owner's wishes. This novel could shock - but it is too impeccably written for that. He could outrage - but for that he is too funny and witty. The reader will follow with tireless interest the adventures of two poor fellows, tightly connected, but at the same time holding fundamentally different views on women, love and other joys of life.
