At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the British Empire stretched from the English Channel to the Indian Ocean. One of the builders of this empire, a participant in all the wars that England waged at that time, was Rifleman Sharp. In the novel “The Escape of Rifleman Sharpe,” it depends only on the hero whether Napoleon’s victorious army will capture Portugal. Sharpe's life is constantly hanging by a thread, danger awaits him from all sides. Sharpe will have to confront envious and incompetent superior officers, imaginary allies ready to betray at any moment, and an insidious enemy. In the novel “The Fury of Gunner Sharpe”, the English army is on the verge of defeat. Spain came under French rule. Only Cadiz remained unconquered, behind whose walls a cunning diplomatic game is being played. The only hope for the British is Sharpe and his fellow soldiers, who do not want to admit defeat.
