Unlike Gibson's previous Sprawl and Bridge trilogies, Hubert Bigand's trilogy (or, perhaps, the Blue Ant trilogy - it could be called that) is not a science fiction work. On the contrary, it is an informal and very unique slice of modern reality, with all its clichés, memes and templates, trends and striking social phenomena. Connecting Zero History with the previous two books are Hollis and Milgrim - and also, of course, Bigand himself, that exceptionally charismatic and driven character who is the driving force behind all three novels. Unlike Spook Country, where more attention was paid to Hollis, in the latter novel Milgrim becomes the main character on whom the author's attention is focused. Taking advantage of Hubert's offer, he undergoes a high-tech blood purification procedure, getting rid of his drug addiction. In essence, the title “Zero History” in this context takes on the meaning of “starting from scratch,” just as Milgrim, breaking with his dark past, actually starts life anew. After all, a “side effect” of his social alienation was complete transparency for society: he has neither a credit card, nor a telephone, the police do not know about him, he is a ghost, he does not exist. In general, the overall plot is more similar to “Pattern Recognition” - as in the first novel of the trilogy, Hubert Bigend hires the main characters to, with their help, understand the source of origin of a bright and unusual media phenomenon. But if in the first book this is videos, then in the last it is a line of fashionable clothing.
