Dmitry Sergeevich Likhachev is an outstanding scientist of the twentieth century. His creative heritage is extremely extensive and diverse; his research, journalistic articles and notes touched on various aspects of cultural history - from the art of Ancient Rus' to landscape gardening styles of the 18th–19th centuries. But first of all, the name of D. S. Likhachev is associated with the poetics of ancient Russian literature, to the study of which he made a huge contribution. The book “The Great Heritage,” one of the scientist’s most famous works, is dedicated to the real masterpieces of Russian literature of the pre-Petrine era - works that are known all over the world. Among them are “The Tale of Law and Grace” by Hilarion, “Walking across the Three Seas” by Afanasy Nikitin, the works of Ivan the Terrible, “The Life” of Archpriest Avvakum and, of course, Likhachev’s beloved “Tale of Igor’s Host.”
