Aspiring writer Henry Harris brings his manuscript to prosperous publisher John Charleston. The publisher rejects Henry's manuscript and shares the patent, which describes the recipe for writing a commercially successful book. Out of anger, Henry agrees to write a novel, intending to defeat the publisher with the appalling tastelessness of his creation, written in full accordance with the requirements of the publisher's patent.
