Autumn 1942. Left without parents, sixteen-year-old Isla Quinn and her younger brother Miles go to the provincial town of Sterling, where the family of their mother’s old friend Mrs. Cliffton is ready to shelter them. Before leaving, Isla manages to take with her her mother’s favorite book - an old collection of Shakespeare’s poems - and her wedding ring. After some time, Isla and Miles realize that something incomprehensible is happening in Sterling... and very strange. Something that cannot be explained logically. Revealing the secrets of the town, Isla begins to suspect that the key to solving everything is in the old book of their mother, Juliet... or in Juliet herself, whom Isla, as it turns out, did not know at all.
