The hero, on whose behalf the confessional narrative is conducted, is a small man - by the scale of the end of the 20th century - whom the transitional era beats and mutilates, drives him out of his home, dooms him to wander. And although in the end fate even gives him a fur coat (and does not take it away, like Akaki Akakievich’s overcoat), this does not make the little man’s tragedy any less. His only salvation is the world of his fantasies, through which the story runs. Mikhail Witkowski (b. 1975) is a Polish prose writer, literary critic, feuilletonist, author of the novel “Lubievo” (UFO, 2007), translated into many languages.
