Twelve-year-old boy Nikolai Solnechny, a pupil of an orphanage, finds himself in the wrong world on New Year's Eve. There he meets talking trees. They turn out to be spirits of the family who need his help. But before finding out about this, the teenager has to go through many tests. His assistant in this is an old, almost dying oak tree, which really wants to revive its family, using an abandoned child for this.
