The publication is a continuation of the Russian translation of “Chronicles” by Jean Froissart, published in 2008. It presents the three main editions of Book One (the Amiens Manuscript, the Roman Manuscript, the A/B family manuscripts) and covers the events of the Hundred Years' War, which took place from 1340 to 1350. Froissart focuses on the struggle for the Breton succession between Blois and Montfort houses; military actions in Aquitaine (1345–1346); Edward III's campaign across the lands of Northern France, which resulted in the Battle of Crecy and the conquest of the city of Calais (1346–1347); the Anglo-Scottish confrontation, which resulted in a crushing defeat for the Scots at the Battle of Neville's Cross (1346); the plague that swept through Western Europe in 1348, as well as many other historical events that occurred during this period. The main text of Froissart's Chronicles is complemented by an extensive appendix containing translations of narrative and documentary sources from the 14th century. The publication is equipped with detailed scientific comments, genealogical tables and historical and geographical maps.
