The book includes “The Adventures of Pinocchio,” a classic fairy tale by Alexei Tolstoy, as well as the original text by C. Collodi, “The Adventures of Pinocchio,” which the writer creatively revised. The translation from Italian was made by N. Petrovskaya and given in a literary adaptation by the same A. Tolstoy. “The Adventures of Pinocchio” is decorated with well-known color drawings by L. Vladimirsky; illustrations for “Pinocchio” were made by the English artist Charles Folkard. The publication is complemented by one hundred and twelve color frames from the famous Soviet filmstrip “The Adventures of Buratino”, made according to drawings by L. Vladimirsky. For the first time A.N. Tolstoy became acquainted with the story of Pinocchio by the Italian writer Carlo Collodi when, in 1923, he sat down to edit the translation of this tale, which was famous at the end of the 19th century. writer N.I. Petrovskaya. He liked the fairy tale, and in 1933 Tolstoy began his own account of the adventures of the animated wooden doll. However, he did not like the moral teachings of Collodi, who continually instructed his readers, showing how Pinocchio's mistakes bring all sorts of troubles and misfortunes. Then Tolstoy decided to remake Collodi’s fairy tale in his own way, and as a result, a real diamond was born - “The Adventures of Buratino” (from Italian Burattino - “doll”, “puppet”). The fairy from Collodi's fairy tale turned into Malvina, the kind owner of the Manjafoco puppet theater - into the evil Karabas-Barabas, and Pinocchio himself became a mischievous, merry fellow and an incorrigible optimist. The whole story about his adventures acquired extraordinary dynamism. The well-known image of Pinocchio in a striped cap was created in 1953 by the talented draftsman L. V. Vladimirsky; at that time he worked as the chief artist at the Filmstrip studio. Three years later, he illustrated a separate book about the adventures of Pinocchio. It is these drawings by the master that adorn this publication. It is curious that the artist used his five-year-old daughter as a model for creating the image of Pinocchio. Carlo Lorenzini (Collodi is a pseudonym) was born in 1826 in Florence into a poor family. He was fascinated by literature early on. Carlo worked part-time as a journalist, wrote stories and essays, published a satirical magazine and translated fairy tales by Charles Perrault into Italian. The fairy tale he composed about the adventures of a wooden doll brought the writer worldwide fame. It is unlikely that he expected such success when the first part of this story was published in the summer of 1881 in one of the first Italian weekly children's magazines. However, parents and children liked the adventures of the puppet with a nose lengthening from lying, although there was a lot of moralizing, instructive maxims and many cruel scenes in them. Readers demanded a continuation, and over the course of two years Collodi added more and more parts to the story of Pinocchio. By the end of the 20th century. “The Adventures of Pinocchio” (from Italian pino - “pine”, occhio - “eye”) have been translated into 260 languages. In this edition, the tale is decorated with drawings by the English artist Charles Folkard (1878–1963). His early talent for drawing forced him to devote his life to illustrating books and magazines. Folkard created entire series of drawings for the stories of the Brothers Grimm, for Aesop's fables and Arabic tales. For The Adventures of Pinocchio he drew more eighty drawings that have become classics. Source:
