At the age of nine, Prince Jörg Ankrath vowed to take revenge on the murderers of his mother and brother, and to punish his father, who refused to do so. At fifteen he fulfilled his vow. Now he is eighteen, and by force of arms he must hold on to everything he has acquired through torture and betrayal. King Jorg is constantly tormented: by the ghost of a child, the mystery of the copper box and a painful desire for the woman who left with his enemy. Tormented by the memory of the atrocities committed by himself and committed against him, he is still full of rage and thirst for revenge. Meanwhile, a twenty-thousand-strong enemy army has gathered at the gates of his castle and Jorg realizes that he cannot win in a fair fight.
