Robert Graves (1895–1985) is the largest English prose writer and lyric poet, an expert on antiquity, whose work is popular all over the world. The third volume of the Collected Works includes a novel telling the story of the 6th century Byzantine commander Belisarius, an associate of Emperor Justinian I, who achieved unprecedented honors, unjustly accused of conspiracy against the emperor and fell into disgrace at the end of his life. The action takes place in the middle of the 6th century, when power and influence passed to the Second Rome - Constantinople.
