A retelling of the famous French fairy tale “Cinderella” by Charles Perrault, illustrated with illustrations from the 18th–19th centuries. ...An important royal official and member of the French Academy, Charles Perrault, once argued with his fellow academicians. He argued that in modern times it is possible to create a work that is not inferior to the creations of the ancient geniuses Homer and Virgil. And to prove that he was right, he presented several folk tales in literary language. Perrault won the argument. The heroine of his fairy tale “Cinderella” supplanted the heroes of the “Iliad” and “Aeneid”. And the name of Perrault is now known no less than the names of Homer and Virgil. Later, philologists counted more than two hundred versions of the plot of the fairy tale about Cinderella in different languages and established that this plot was known back in Ancient Egypt. And this is not surprising. After all, from the time of the Egyptian pharaohs to the present day, all sweet and charming girls dream that one day a handsome prince will meet them and take them to the royal palace... The publication uses colored engravings from the French and English editions of Charles Perrault’s fairy tale “Cinderella” of the 19th century, illustrations from the publication fairy tales "Cinderella" by the trading house "Evdokia Konovalova and Co", as well as illustrations by artists Ch. Landsey, A. Rackham, W. Crane, A. Bilinskaya, K. Offterdinger, F. Grotjohan.
