Selected fables by I.A. Krylova. The fables of “Grandfather Krylov,” whom contemporaries called “the real Minister of Education of Russia,” embody the wisdom of the father of the European fable, Aesop, the French brilliance of La Fontaine’s mind, and the history of the formation of self-awareness of the Russian people at the beginning of the 19th century. ...It seemed that all the fables were written before Krylov by Aesop, and then retold by La Fontaine. But Krylov managed not only to brilliantly retell in Russian and in the Russian spirit everything created by the great Aesop, but also to write his own, Krylov’s - about the Wolf who ended up in the kennel, and about Trishkin’s caftan, and about the Chest that simply opened, and about Demyanova ear, and about the failed Quartet - always a modern fable... In preparing the publication, illustrations by A. Sapozhnikov, N. Olshansky and P. Bellingerst, V. Carrick, A. Volkov and V. Timorev were used, as well as portraits of I. A. Krylov by K . Bryullov and I. Egginka.
