The concept of “stratagem” (in Chinese: zhimou, moulue, tselyue, fanliue) means a strategic plan that contains some kind of trap or trick for the enemy. “Zhimou,” for example, simultaneously means intelligence, ingenuity, and resourcefulness. Stratagemism originated in ancient times and was associated with methods of military and diplomatic struggle. Stratagems were not only composed of generals. The political teachers and mentors of the kings were skilled in both managing civil society and diplomacy. Everything that required winning in the political struggle needed, in their opinion, stratagem equipment. Diplomatic stratagems were plans aimed at solving a major foreign policy problem, designed for a long period and meeting national and state interests. Stratagem diplomacy drew its means and methods not from the principles, norms and customs of international law, but from the theory of military art, which is total in nature and asserts that the end justifies the means
