Under the heading “The Unpast,” the magazine begins publishing fragments of Boris Messerer’s book “Bella’s Flash.” First, a decoding of tape recordings of Bella Akhmadulina’s memoirs about her childhood and youth. The war, evacuation to Kazan, where, as it later turns out, Bella also lived, the 40s–50s, the death of Stalin and the Khrushchev thaw with severe frosts — time emerging from the memoir pages. The final part talks about Bella Akhmadulina’s trip to France and - without the knowledge of the Soviet authorities - to the United States.
