"Orlando the Confused" or "Mad Orlando" is a poem of 23 cantos that became a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance, written by Lodovico Ariosto. This epic tells about the adventures of knights and magical creatures in fantastic lands. The main character, Orlando, begins his journey filled with love and hate, despair and devotion. He is faithful to his ideals - honesty, honor and heroism, but his heart is sometimes undermined by passion and madness. The poem became an important work for both Italian and world literature, and gave rise to a new genre - the Renaissance epic.
