"Northern Abbey" is a parody novel by the English writer Jane Austen, which was published in 1818. The main character, Catherine Moreland, dreams of romantic adventures that seem to her possible only in novels. Having gone to the Abbey guest house under the care of the famous old Tilney family, she begins to imagine the investigations, intrigues and mysteries associated with it. However, reality turns out to be very different from her imagination, and Catherine learns to distinguish between honest people and charades. This book is notable for its deep analysis of social customs, humorous mockery of romantic conventions, and vivid characterization of characters.
